Miscellaneous, Menus, and Highlights

August 12 - 15, 2012

Sunday

Aug 12

Chuck is the new Food Services director for Tilikum. He plans to retain some of the old beloved recipes and add what he hopes will be new favorites.

Pam and Judy organized an apron contest, with the winners to be chosen Monday at dinner.

Apron rules:
  1. Everyone attending will MAKE an apron (your apron will have been made by you)
  2. We will wear our aprons to dinner on Monday night. Aprons will be modeled after we eat--not finished, wear it anyway.
  3. There will be a secret ballot for 3 categories.
Everyone will vote for (in their opinion) the
    1. Prettiest
    2. Most practical
    3. Favorite
  4. Ballots will be tallied and prizes awarded Monday evening
Tables were arranged with a diagonal path from the kitchen door to the cutting table. Three people (Bambi, Caroline, and Virginia) were in the center.

Apron Contest:
Some of us had to make an apron on Monday. Some used a pattern, others made them without a pattern. Some brought aprons they had already made, and others borrowed hand-made aprons from Liz and Dianne's family.
  • Prettiest: Shirley, with an apron she also used for her ThreadTails book club for the book Clara and Mr Tiffany.
  • Most Practical: Debby, with an apron she wove the fabric for during an art class. It has pockets that will hold, as it turns out, sewing stuff as well as gardening gear.
  • Favorite: Judy, with an apron she made from old blue jeans. Actually, she made about 13 of them as Christmas gifts, each with a theme relating to the recipient.
  • Presentation: Virginia. This last category was added as the judges were adding up the votes. Virginia borrowed a Christmas apron from Arden. We were all laughing hard as she explained the various attributes of the apron. Arden's face turned red from laughing.

Barb is sick, and took to her bed. It appears to be her ulcer again, with differences in the symptoms. Instead of the pain coming in waves, what she has tonight is a tsunami.

Arden has a bicycle trip butting up against this trip, so she had planned to leave Tilikum first thing Wednesday morning. Instead, she left tonight, thus getting a head start on tomorrow.
