Caroline took the first stitch this retreat. This evening after dinner Barb abdicated her position as organizer of the July QOTL. After a question and answer session, Arden volunteered to chair a QOTL Committee. Arden's name is on the 2011 contract. Dianne is still in charge of tables, rooms, name tags, and the Web site. A Fairy put magnetic list pads on our machines during dinner. (Pam seems to have been the Fairy.) The Milwaukie Center Quilt Show Committee spent a good part of the retreat working on the Raffle Quilt for the 2011 Show. It is going to be fabulously beautiful, of course! Bambi isn't here because she has family visiting from Sweden. |

Ten of us took a field trip to The Quilted Hill. Five were originally intending to go, but the count grew and grew. We managed to cozily fit into two cars. While at The Quilted Hill, Lee took time to bask in the sun. Judy is reminding us again this time to "Check your bobbins". Liz finished the wedding cross stitch she made for Ryan and Melissa. Their third anniversary was this month. Arden returned from one of her walks with an oak gall. A quick Internet search indicated that they are caused by wasps. Coincidentally, after she was home Dianne picked up an old Natural History Magazine (Jan/Feb 2010) and saw an article about gall wasps. Confessions of a Gall Hunter |

Shirley suggested a new breakfast place in Portland: Tasty n Sons. It is located on North Williams Ave. "Yelp" review for Tasty n Sons Barb's ulcer is acting up again. Caroline did a class on a cute little "Snappy Purse". Fabrics: 2x (6x5) Outside; 2x (6x6 1/2) Inside; 2x (3x3) Tabs. Put the curved side of the 6" metal tape to the inside. Smooth the sharp edges if possible, and/or cover them with tape. On the Web: Snap Happy Bag We did the group photo this afternoon out on the sun-dappled deck. As usual, Arden did the arranging, with the rest of us jockying to see who would be in the back-back. Arden sandwiched Bud's bicycle quilt outdoors on the deck. She doesn't think any ants were stuck to the sticky spray... Lee, after much trial and tribulation, finally had a block made for the quilt she is making for her Brownie troup. She had adjusted the block size, and the pieces weren't going together the way she thought they should. By the end of the retreat she had the whole quilt top finished. Caroline made a wonderful jacket for a friend as a hostess gift. A sweatshirt was the base for the jacket. Hmmm... Maybe I should invite Caroline to my house?... At dinner, Barb was talking about super-hot chilis and 12-foot things. Judy did her BBQ invitation game. Debby finally decided to bring Dilly Dots -- after telling a story about Doggy Do. She just didn't understand why we were so amused about her sad experience with dirty shoes. The BBQ party is scheduled for August 32nd again this year. The Mexican Haystack Buffet dinner was tasty, but it was a bit of a disappointment to have for dinner what we had been told previously was only available as a lunch dish. |

Barb is thinking it would be nice for both the February and July QOTL-ers to attend the Tilikum Potlatch fund raiser. Lisa is going to check into whether or not there could be a silent auction. Pam works on Fridays at the "Paisley Duck" fabric shop in Kelso. Maybe a field trip is in our future? Paisley Duck Quilting Arden brought a quilt top she finished recently. She has had the blocks for a decade or more -- they are Smithsonian Fabrics and are from an Internet block exchange. "Arden comes to Tilikum, sets up her machine, goes fabric shopping, then shows off all the quilts she made at home." Judy and Debby had planned entertainment, as well as Judy and Pat a game and prize, but people began leaving right after breakfast today so the plans were put on indefinite hold. Pam made a really cute quilt top with panels. Tilikum was short-staffed and there was a bit of confusion. Some of us were told to be out of our rooms by 11:00; others were told there was no rush. As it turns out, there was no hurry. Lynn was the last person sewing -- she was working until about 2:00. Lisa's daughter Stephanie came down and showed us her new gown. This one dates from the time period about 1795 - 1805. Remind Barb for a game next year. Tell her "Magazine". Debby wants Barb to do another Fat Quarter Bag class next year. The Tilikum housekeeper, Carrie, lost her husband recently. He had Parkinson's disease and died after brain surgery. We all signed a card for her and gave her our sympathies. Next year's QOTL: July 17 - 20. $184. Everyone paid a $10 deposit to Arden. |
