Miscellaneous and Highlights

July 16 - 20, 2006

Sunday Pat was the first person to take a stitch at this retreat.     Photo

Vicky was our hostess, with her son Nicolas working in the kitchen. Theresa was the cook.

The table centerpieces at our meals were lovely bouquets of daisies and the tips of grape vines.

James Dinh is the Upholstery Guy that Dotti reccomended.

My notes say: "Marilyn -- Remember Photo Album!" However, I don't know what that means. I hope you do, Marilyn.

Colleen isn't here because yesterday her wallet was stolen at work from out of her purse (which was under her desk).

Monday Rebecca was our hostess today.

"Casting pearls before swine." This phrase had puzzled Barb, so Pat explained to all of us about giving pearls of wisdom to ungrateful people. (From the Sermon On The Mount)

Colleen is having every problem imaginable in trying to get her post-theft life back together.

Tuesday There were field trips to Boersmas today.

The shop in Carlton, "Late Bloomers and Country Dry Goods", has closed, and the business was purchased by one of the employees. It has been renamed "____ Nest", and is in the original small Late Bloomers space.

Today was our Necklace Contest.     Photos

Next year the contest will be a Decorated Baseball Hat Contest, using the hats provided by Pat for our "Strip Poker" game on Wednesday evening.

Wednesday This morning our Hostess, Vicky, shared her felted purses. They are really wonderful. She brought them in African bags, which were also pretty.

This retreat is the first time we have scheduled five days/four nights. Today at about noon we talked about how ordinarily we would be getting ready to leave.

The wheeled box with a handle that JoAnn has is a "Work Gear" Grand Pack-n-Roll which she purchased at Home Depot.

Barb's favorite pins are Collins Glass-head pins. They are sharp and thin.

More field trips today, especially to The Quilted Hill.

Kari was our evening hostess. She is the housekeeper, and was filling in this evening.

We are sharing Tilikum with a large group of Korean teenagers from a church in Cedar Mill. They are having a good time. :-)

Seven-month old "Baby Cedric", the child of an adult couple with the kids, visited us for a bit at dinner, then his parents came downstairs and visited with us during the evening. They were interested in the quilts, he was interested in the machines, and Dotti made a "Small World" connection with the woman.

We did the "Class Photo" after dinner today.

Virginia wasn't feeling well and was in pain, so she left at about noon today.

We played "Strip Poker" this evening, using the 12 , 3-inch strips we each brought. Paula ended up with quite a stash from her table, then the other table ended up playing one last hand for the whole pot. It was a lot of fun. Thank you, Pat, for arranging this activity!

Thursday Michelle is our hostess today.

At Breakfast, Michelle gave us the message that Virginia went to the doctor yesterday, is taking antibiotics, and is feeling much better.

An extra day! Being here this fifth day has made a difference in how much we were able to accomplish.

Arden suggested that we have a QOTL party at some point during the year. Pat suggested that it be a show-and-tell party, where we would share the quilts we were working on this week.

Betty, of StoryQuilts, provided fat quarters for our breakfast plates one morning, and also some patterns. Thank you, Betty!

Every day of our retreat we were hoping that Colleen would come, but she didn't. She did finally get her new driver's license. This whole stolen-purse adventure was fraught with Murphy's Law episodes.

July, 2007 The Sisters Quilt Show will be Saturday, July 14, 2007, so we will have our retreat begin a week later, on July 22, 2007. It will be another 5-day, 4-night retreat . . . Sunday, July 22 through Thursday, July 26, 2007.
